When Adyen Wins

Adyen is the enterprise default when:

Setup

Adyen onboarding is more involved than Stripe; expect a multi-week process.

Drop-in vs Components

Adyen offers two storefront integration paths.

Alternative Payment Methods (APMs)

Adyen's coverage of regional payment methods is the strongest in the industry. Selected APMs:

RevenueProtect + RevenueAccelerate

Adyen's risk + revenue optimization layer.

Common Gotchas

  • Long onboarding — 4-8 weeks for new merchants; Adyen vets businesses heavily. Plan timeline accordingly.

FAQ

Stripe usually wins on developer experience + simpler integration. Adyen's value (interchange-plus pricing + APMs + risk) compounds at $50M+. Migrate from Stripe to Adyen when geographic complexity demands it, not before.

Yes — many enterprises do. Stripe for US, Adyen for EU + APAC. Aeion's per-store payment-provider mapping handles this.

Adyen for Platforms (their marketplace product) supports this on Adyen's side, but Aeion's Adyen adapter doesn't currently wrap that API — split-payment marketplace flows aren't implemented yet.

Adyen uses interchange-plus pricing (interchange + 0.6%-1.0% + a fixed per-transaction fee). Stripe uses flat 2.9% + $0.30. At scale, Adyen is 30-50% cheaper; for low-volume, Adyen's setup overhead doesn't pay off.

Adyen's Pay-by-link generates a URL the customer pays from — useful for B2B invoice flows, support-team-initiated charges, etc. This isn't wired into Aeion's adapter today; it would need to go directly through Adyen's dashboard or API.

Adyen supports recurring charges via tokenized card-on-file (`shopperReference` + `recurringProcessingModel`), and Aeion's adapter can reuse a stored card for one-off repeat charges. But Aeion's subscription engine (recurring billing, dunning, proration) currently only orchestrates Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay, GoCardless, Mollie, and Paystack as subscription providers — Adyen isn't one of them yet.
