LiveKit is the SFU (Selective Forwarding Unit) that handles your video calls. Not a consumer app — an enterprise-grade media server that routes WebRTC streams with sub-50ms latency. Aeion wraps it completely, so your team never touches the underlying complexity.
Recording & Streaming:
- Room composite recording — an entire meeting recorded to a single MP4, ready for playback or handoff to the Cut module for review.
- Track composite streaming — route specific tracks (speaker camera + screen share) to a live destination like YouTube Live.
Broadcast Ingress (OBS / Professional Broadcast):
- WHIP ingress — RFC 9725-compliant push ingress for OBS, FFmpeg, or browser encoders. Passthrough mode keeps CPU usage low.
- RTMP ingress — standard broadcast ingress for OBS, Wirecast, and hardware cameras, with transcoding on by default (H.264/AAC → WebRTC).
Secure Join Tokens:
Every participant gets a short-lived, room-scoped token with exactly the permissions they need — publish, subscribe, and data channel access — with a 24-hour default expiry. Screen-share-only participants get a publish-only token with no subscribe access.
Telephony (roadmap): Native phone system (PSTN/SIP) calling — through providers like Twilio, Telnyx, Vonage, or Plivo — is on our roadmap; there's no telephony calling today. Real-time audio/video runs entirely on the shipped LiveKit stack; inbound-call recordings will feed the same transcription pipeline once telephony ships.
