Cut on the Collaborative Timeline

Open the Browser NLE (Cut → Projects → [project] → Timeline). Drag clips onto multi-track timeline.

Multi-editor collaboration:

  • CRDT-based sync — every cut, trim, transition, and effect propagates to all collaborators in sub-100ms
  • Visible cursors per editor (see who's working where)
  • Conflict-free editing on different parts of the timeline simultaneously
  • Auto-save preserves every edit; revision history navigable forever

Multi-cam workflow:

  • Select multiple clips → right-click → "Sync via Audio Waveform" or "Sync via Timecode"
  • Mixed frame rates handled (23.976 through 60fps)
  • Cut-switch between angles with perfectly sync-locked playback
  • Up to 16 angles per multi-cam group

Color tools:

  • LUT loading (.cube, .3dl, .look)
  • Primary correction (exposure, contrast, saturation, temperature, tint)
  • Secondary correction (HSL qualifiers, masks, tracking)
  • Scopes (waveform, vectorscope, RGB parade)
  • Per-clip / per-track / project-wide grades

Transitions + effects:

  • 30+ built-in transitions (cut, dissolve, fade, wipe, slide, etc.)
  • Speed ramps + time remapping
  • Audio crossfades + ducking
  • Plugin support (Bridge required for local VST3 / OFX plugins from Izotope, Waves, Boris FX)

Share for Client Review

Click Share on a sequence → generates a secure Review Portal link.

Client experience (no app install, no account required):

  • Scrub the timeline frame-by-frame
  • Click any frame to leave a comment
  • Draw annotations directly on frames
  • Compare versions side-by-side
  • Approve or request revisions

Annotations sync back to the editor's timeline as markers — when the client says "rotate this logo at 0:42", the marker appears at 0:42 in the editing UI.

Approval workflow:

  • Multi-level sign-off: Internal Review → Client Review → Final Approval
  • Notification on each transition (Slack / email / Aeion in-app)
  • Approval deadlines + escalation alerts
  • Audit trail on every decision (who approved when, with what comment)

Forensic watermarking — an invisible per-reviewer pattern is embedded across every frame of the review copy. If the screener leaks — even re-encoded, downscaled, and stripped of metadata — correlation analysis against the original traces it back to the specific reviewer.

Mobile-responsive — clients can review on phones / tablets, draw annotations with touch.

Generate Subtitles + Export

Subtitle generation:

  • AI transcription via Whisper (word-level timestamps)
  • Edit interactively on the waveform — drag to adjust timing, double-click to fix typos
  • Multiple language tracks supported per video
  • Formats: SRT, VTT, ASS (styled), burn-in, CEA-608/708 (broadcast)

Export pipeline:

  • Codecs: H.264, H.265, ProRes, DNxHD, DNxHR, AV1, VP9
  • Containers: MP4, MOV, MKV, MXF, WebM
  • Resolution + frame rate: any combination (1080p, 4K, 8K, 23.976-60fps)
  • HDR: PQ, HLG, Dolby Vision metadata preserved
  • Captions: burn-in, sidecar SRT/VTT, embedded CEA-608/708
  • Hardware acceleration: auto-detected (NVENC, QSV, VideoToolbox)

Render farm option: for long exports (4K+ feature length), offload to the cloud render farm. Browser export keeps the editor responsive while the background job runs.

Integration Recipes

Production → Cut handoff. Aeion Production's call sheets + shoot schedules link to Cut projects. Dailies from each shoot day auto-import into the linked Cut project. Editors see scene metadata + scripts inline.

Spatial → virtual set. Cut can use Aeion Spatial 3D environments as virtual sets / backgrounds (LED-wall workflows or browser-based AR composite). Camera tracking from physical or virtual cameras aligns.

Media library shared. Every asset in Cut lives in the Media module. Re-use clips across projects without re-uploading; version-controlled per project.

Bridge → local hardware. PTZ cameras with serial protocols (VISCA Serial, Pelco-D/P RS-232) require Bridge's USB-serial pass-through. Local GPU encoders for render-farm-free 4K export require Bridge with an Nvidia/Intel/Apple GPU.

Collab → real-time review threads. Frame-accurate comments on the timeline thread in Aeion Collab — comments + mentions + assignment tracking on every revision.

AeionClaw → editor assistant. The aeion-cut skill drafts edit decisions ("trim out filler words", "auto-cut to music beats", "generate rough cut from B-roll"). Drafts the change as a non-destructive timeline modification you can review and apply.

Troubleshooting

Browser editor lagging on 4K footage. Make sure proxies generated — check Admin → Cut → Projects → [project] → Proxy Status. If proxies show as missing, re-trigger proxy generation from that panel, or contact support if it doesn't regenerate. Switch the timeline to proxy playback (lower-left toggle).

Multi-cam sync via audio fails. Common cause: clip audio is muted or microphone was off. Switch to timecode-based sync, or manually align via the audio waveform visual.

Live stream stuttering on one destination. Check the destination's bitrate budget — your composite encode may exceed the platform's accepted bitrate. Reduce bitrate per destination (Admin → StreamCast → Destinations → [destination] → Bitrate).

Magic Mask producing flickering edges. Increase temporal consistency weight in the VFX panel. For very fast motion, switch to hybrid mode and add hint points every 5-10 frames.

PTZ camera not responding. Verify the camera's IP / serial connection. Test from Admin → StreamCast → PTZ → [camera] → Diagnostic. Common cause: VISCA over IP requires specific port (52381) open, blocked by firewall.

Review Portal annotations not syncing back. Check the editor's WebSocket connection (browser DevTools → Network → WS). Reload the editor — annotations buffered server-side will sync on reconnect.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Core NLE, Magic Mask, Color Grading, and Review Portal run in any WebGL2 browser. Bridge required only for: local VST3/OFX plugins (Izotope, Waves, Boris FX), local GPU encoding without cloud render farm, and PTZ cameras using serial protocols.

Select clips, right-click, choose "Sync via Audio Waveform" (audio fingerprint matching) or "Sync via Timecode" (SMPTE alignment). Mixed frame rates (23.976 through 60fps) handled automatically. Cut-switch between angles with perfectly sync-locked playback.

Yes. StreamCast supports 8 PTZ controller protocols natively: VISCA over IP, VISCA Serial, ONVIF, Pelco-D, Pelco-P, HTTP API, NDI, and Dante AV-H. Configure in StreamCast → PTZ Devices. Preset positions recall from the live production UI; preset limits follow each camera's own firmware spec.

Three advantages: (1) temporal consistency prevents flickering on fast motion via occlusion + motion prediction, (2) dedicated detail models for hair / fur / transparency, (3) batch processing across entire sequences in the background while you continue editing.

Yes. Review Portal is fully responsive — scrub timeline, type comments, draw annotations on mobile. No app install, no account required (secure-link access). Forensic watermarking deters unauthorized sharing.

StreamCast → Destinations → Add Destination. Configure each: YouTube (RTMP key), Twitch (stream key), Facebook (live URL), Custom (RTMP/SRT URL + key). Each destination streams independently — no session collisions, and stopping one doesn't affect the others.

Native (no conversion): RED R3D, ARRI RAW, Sony X-OCN, Blackmagic BRAW, all ProRes profiles, Avid DNxHD/HR, plus H.264/H.265 from any camera. Proxy generation auto-selects hardware acceleration (NVENC / QSV / VideoToolbox) based on detected GPU.

Side-by-side player with version switcher. Approval workflow tracks Internal → Client → Final stages with notifications + deadlines + audit trail per stage. Approval deadlines trigger escalation alerts if missed.

AI transcription via Whisper (word-level timestamps), interactive editing on the waveform, burn-in or sidecar SRT/VTT/ASS output. CEA-608/708 closed captions generated for broadcast delivery. Multi-language support.

On ingest, 20+ automated checks: resolution, frame rate, codec, color space (Rec.709/2020/DCI-P3), HDR metadata (PQ/HLG), audio channels, sample rate, timecode continuity, dropped frames, black frames, audio silence, corruption. QC report with frame-accurate defect logging for the DIT.
