Every ticket carries an HMAC-SHA256 signed QR payload — a base64url-encoded {ticketNumber, eventId} with a truncated signature appended, signed with a server-side secret. On scan, the gate recomputes the expected signature and compares it against the one presented. A screenshot or photocopy of a real ticket carries a valid-looking QR, but the moment anything is tampered with the signatures diverge and the scan is rejected.
